Advanced Life Support - Patient Simulators

SimMan

Laerdal Medical

SimMan is a portable computer driven simulation-based advanced patient simulator used to teach clinical decision-making skills, leadership, communication, and teamwork, during realistic patient care scenarios.

Features:

  • Anatomically realistic airway with flexible tongue, arytenoid cartilage, vallecula, vocal cords, trachea, bronchial tree, esophagus and simulated lungs for spontaneous breathing, realistic chest rise and fall, and CO2 detection - Oral and nasal intubation.

    - LMA (Laryngeal Mask Airway) and Combitube
      placement

    - Anatomical features allow demonstration of
      Sellick Maneuver and laryngospasm.

  • Tracheal access through the neck.
  • Bilateral carotid pulse.
  • Fiberoptic bronchoscopy.
  • Simulated patient monitor with SPO2 sensors and adjustable saturation levels.
  • 3-lead ECG monitoring, defibrillation, and transthoracic cardiac pacing.
  • Chest compression with simulated cardiac output.
  • Allows multi site IV cannulation for the administration of drugs and IV fluids.
  • Heart and breath sounds.
  • Genitalia and urinary cauterization system.
  • Include extensible trauma and wound modules.
  • The SimMan software drives the patient simulator and comes with pre-programmed scenarios; instructors can also design and save their own cases.
  • The software allows multiple simultaneous automatic responses to actions performed by students and it is possible to control physiological parameters.

MSR has developed a number of add on features to the SimMan, such as a seizure function, vomiting and hemorrhage kits. In addition, MSR developed add-on software to provide instructors and students with performance data and feedback information from simulation encounters.

Human Patient Simulator

METI Medical Education Technologies Inc.

The Human Patient Simulator (HPS) is a computer-model-driven, advanced adult patient simulator. Computerized mathematical models of human physiology drive the mannequin. The system has a sophisticated feedback system, which responds, in real-time, to patient management interventions, including pharmacological treatment.
The HPS will also respond to the pharmakinetic action of the inhaled gasses when ventilated by an anesthetic machine.  These features make the HPS ideal for anesthetic simulation courses, especially in the areas of anesthetic crises resource management, and in clinical and decision-making skills and leadership, communication, and teamwork scenarios.

Features:

  • Breath and heart sounds; airways resistance; lung and chest wall compliance; multiple central and peripheral pulses.
  • Anatomically realistic airway with flexible tongue, arytenoid cartilage, vallecula, vocal cords, trachea, bronchial tree, esophagus, and simulated lungs for spontaneous breathing, realistic chest rise, and fall.
  • Exhaled respiratory gasses

          - Oral and nasal intubation.

          - LMA (Laryngeal Mask Airway) and
            Combitube placement.

          - Anatomical features allow demonstration
            of Sellick Maneuver and laryngospasm.

  • Tracheal access through the neck.
  • Bilateral carotid pulse.
  • Fiberoptic bronchoscopy.
  • Can be monitored with by a patient monitor.
  • Allows multi site IV cannulation for the administration of drugs and IV fluids.
  • Heart and breath sounds.
  • Genitalia and urinary cauterization system.
  • Neuromuscular blockade thumb twitch.
  • Blinking eyes and reactive pupil diameter.
  • Pneumothorax needle decompression and chest tube placement.
  • Pericardiocentesis.
  • Diagnostic peritoneal lavage.
  • Chest compression with cardiac output.
  • 5-Lead ECG, defibrillation, and transthoracic cardiac pacing.
  • The HPS software drives the patient simulator and comes with pre-programmed scenarios; instructors can also design and save their own cases.
  • The software allows multiple simultaneous automatic responses to actions performed by students and physiological parameters can also be manually manipulated.

MSR has developed a number of add-on features to the HPS, such as a seizure function, vomiting and hemorrhage kits.

  Emergency Care Simulator

METI Medical Education Technologies Inc.

The Emergency Care Simulator (ECS) is a portable computer-model-driven, adult patient simulator offering much of the same technology as the HPS. The ECS is designed to teach clinical decision-making skills. leadership, communication, and teamwork, during realistic patient care scenarios.

Features:

  • Breath and heart sounds; airway resistance; lung and chest wall compliance, multiple central and peripheral pulses.
  • Anatomically realistic airway with flexible tongue, arytenoid cartilage, vallecula, vocal cords, trachea, bronchial tree, esophagus, simulated lungs for spontaneous breathing, and realistic chest movements.
    - Oral and nasal intubation.

    - LMA (Laryngeal Mask Airway) and
      Combitube placement.

    - Anatomical features allow demonstration
      of Sellick Maneuver and laryngospasm.

  • Tracheal access through the neck.

  • Bilateral carotid pulse.

  • Fiberoptic bronchoscopy.
  • Simulated patient monitor with SPO2 sensors and adjustable saturation levels.
  • Allows multi site IV cannulation for the administration of drugs and IV fluids.
  • Heart and breath sounds.
  • Genitalia and urinary cauterization system.
  • Blinking eyes.
  • Pneumothorax needle decompression and chest tube placement.
  • Chest compression with cardiac output.
  • 5-Lead ECG, defibrillation, and transthoracic cardiac pacing.
  • The HPS software drives the ECS patient simulator and comes with pre-programmed scenarios; instructors can also design and save their own cases.
  • The software allows multiple simultaneous automatic responses to actions performed by students and physiological parameters can also be manually manipulated.

MSR has developed a number of add-on features to the ECS, such as a seizure function, vomiting and hemorrhage kits.
